Shawn started off in his native California.

On the advice and dare of a close friend he turned his sights to a career in Cosmetology enrolling in The Paul Mitchel School and surfing in his down time. Shawn was discovered on a military base volunteering his skills to returning service men and women, which led to an offer of an apprenticeship in NYC. He immediately left California and migrated to New York in pursuit of an editorial career. For nine months, he worked in the production department of Art + Commerce, followed by 8 plus years assisting Kevin Ryan and Sam McKnight. He stayed sharp doing shows in Europe every season from 2003 to 2010 with Guido and McKnight.

Shawn’s visceral and uncomplicated approach was extremely well received by photographers, stylists and editors alike. Both his natural and highly-stylized hair are held to the highest standards, which was apparent even at an early stage in his career. He was carving out his niche, teaming up alongside other rising young talents. During this time Shawn was represented by Artlist Paris, an elite international team of agents and producers in New York and Paris that that represent and foster the careers of talent in photography, styling and beauty.

Following the footsteps of his family and friends, he decided to take an extended hiatus from fashion to fulfill his civil duty and participate in the global war on terrorism and was forward deployed in a Combat Support and Sustainment Battalion in Germany and transitioned into an Civil Affairs Unit (Airborne). During his time in the military he received numerous awards and certifications as well as two university degrees.

Currently, Shawn is the owner of, Barber Shop Zagreb – a Barber Shop by the American, the only American barber shop in Europe, that is not on or in close proximity to a US military installation. He has collaborated with Elle and other editorial and online publications. He works with some of the world’s most respected hairstylists, Duffy and Anthony Turner, during fashion weeks in London, Milan and Paris. Shawn is producing his own line of traditional men’s grooming products and is currently expanding his brand and barbershop.
